2. Cambridge University Library Releases Some Data

This dataset consists of MARC 21 output in a single file, comprising around 180000 records. There is some work to be done to tidy up the data – details of this are available at:http://knowledgeforge.net/pdw/trac/wiki/datatriage. New datasets will be shared as they become available.

3. German National Library Publishes the German Library Authority Files as Linked Data (via the W3C-Public-Esw-Thes List)

The German National Library (DNB) has published the German library authority files as linked data. The dataset consists of 1.8 Mill differentiated persons from the PND (Personennamendatei, Name authority file), 187.000 subject headings from the SWD (Schlagwortnormdatei, Subject headings authority file), 1.3 Mill corporate bodies from the GKD (emeinsame Krperschaftsdatei, Corporate Body Authority file), and 51,000 classes from the German translation of the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC).

CORAL(stands for Centralized Online Resources Acquisitions and Licensing )is an electronic resources management system built by the Hesburgh Libraries at the University of Notre Dame. It consists of a suite of interoperable modules designed around the core components of managing electronic resources. Currently made up of a Licensing, Organizations (Contacts), Cancellation Workflow, and Usage Statistics [Journal statistics tracking] module - we are now in the process of developing the final component, a Resources (Acquisitions) module, expected to be completed by fall. Each module may be used as part of the whole suite or as an independent system. For example, a library interested only in managing license agreements may install and
use the CORAL Licensing module without the need to install the rest of the suite.

Burma's National Library sold to private investors

Burma's National Library and a TV studio complex are among five state-owned buildings sold to private investors, according to informed sources in Rangoon

The National Library went for only about 100 million kyat ($100,000), while the Yadanapon Theater, which belonged to the Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise of the Ministry of Information, fetched more than 920 million kyat (nearly $1 million).

One businessman with close contacts to regime officials suggested that state-run property was being sold off to raise funds for the development of the government quarter in Naypyidaw and help finance the upcoming election.

A retired professor from Rangoon’s University of Economics expressed sorrow at the sale of the National Library, saying it contradicted an official statement assuring support for Burmese literature.
