The new "Don't Be Evil" google video - Final Version.mp4

"Do you want Google or any other online company looking over your shoulder and tracking your every move online just so it can increase its profits? Consumers have a right to privacy. They should control how their information is gathered and what it is used for.

This avatar-style animation video was created to draw attention to Google CEO Eric Schmidt's lack of regard for our online privacy. Consumer Watchdog is promoting the video right now, 36 times per day, on a jumbotron in Times Square — the most highly-trafficked public square in the nation.

It's time to create a 'Do Not Track Me' list to prevent online companies from gathering our personal information, just as Congress had the Federal Trade Commission create a Do Not Call list to prevent intrusive telemarketers from invading consumers' privacy."

PREMIS(Preservation Metadata: Implementation Strategies)

"Behind every digital object, there is usually metadata with descriptive information about the object.  But the library world is all too aware that metadata for access and discovery is no longer enough.  Now, digital library professionals are looking to the future with an eye towards preservation, not only needing to preserve the digital objects themselves but also the valuable metadata that goes along with it.
Enter PREMIS, which stands for Preservation Metadata: Implementation Strategies. According to the publication Understanding PREMIS [pdf, 543 kb],written by Priscilla Caplan and issued by the Library of Congress, preservation metadata "supports activities intended to ensure the long-term usability of a digital resource."

Tool:DansGuardian:'Content Filtering'

DansGuardian is  an Open Source web content filter software. currently runs on Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, Mac OS X, HP-UX, and Solaris. It filters the actual content of pages based on many methods including phrase matching, PICS filtering and URL filtering. It does not purely filter based on a banned list of sites like lesser totally commercial filters.

Content Filtering:

Your normal web filter such as Cyber Patrol, squidGuard, Net Nanny, etc, has a very large list of bad sites. If you try to go to these sites you will get blocked. I.e. your web access is filtered by web address.
The web is a fast changing place and even large web search engines such as Google or Altavista or Yahoo don't even know of half of it. This makes filtering by web address (URL) difficult as sites change and new ones come up all the time. It is impossible to have comprehensive filtering using just URLs. What is needed is something to check every page you (or your children) ever access for 'bad' subjects such as drugs, profanities, hate, pornography, etc, and disallow it if it's not suitable. This is called 'Content Filtering'.
This is why you need DansGuardian as it makes the web a cleaner, safer, place for you and your children.
As a side effect, DansGuardian also helps maintain freedom of speech by moving the censoring to the choice of the individual rather than imposing a specific ideal on the whole world.

Open or Linked Library Data
2. Cambridge University Library Releases Some Data
This dataset consists of MARC 21 output in a single file, comprising around 180000 records. There is some work to be done to tidy up the data – details of this are available at:http://knowledgeforge.net/pdw/trac/wiki/datatriage. New datasets will be shared as they become available.
More info about both sources in this blog post from the Open Knowledge Foundation.

The German National Library (DNB) has published the German library authority files as linked data. The dataset consists of 1.8 Mill differentiated persons from the PND (Personennamendatei, Name authority file), 187.000 subject headings from the SWD (Schlagwortnormdatei, Subject headings authority file), 1.3 Mill corporate bodies from the GKD (emeinsame Krperschaftsdatei, Corporate Body Authority file), and 51,000 classes from the German translation of the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC).
